How it is used
- A defined zone or region - 商业区域 (shāngyè qūyù) commercial zone; 服务区域 (fúwù qūyù) service area.
- More formal/technical than 地区 (dìqū, a geographic region/area); 区域 stresses a bounded zone (network coverage, jurisdiction, a marked-off area).
- Common in signage and admin talk: 禁止区域 (jìnzhǐ qūyù) restricted zone.
