How it is used

  • 'Just now' - the emphatic doubled form of 刚: 他刚刚走 (tā gānggāng zǒu) he left this very moment.
  • An adverb before the verb (他刚刚到), unlike the time-noun 刚才 (gāngcái) which can start a sentence: 刚才他来过.
  • Also means 'exactly / just barely': 刚刚好 (gānggāng hǎo) just right; 刚刚够 (gānggāng gòu) barely enough.
