How to remember 催促: 催 to urge + 促 to urge = to urge.
Characters
How it is used
- To urge/press someone to hurry up or get on with it - 催促他快点 (cuīcù tā kuài diǎn) to press him to hurry.
- Both characters mean urge; the doubled sense stresses repeated prodding. Slightly more formal than plain 催 (cuī).
- About speeding someone along; contrast 督促 (dūcù, to supervise-and-urge, ensuring a duty gets done) which adds oversight.
