How it is used
- A formal 'if / suppose' introducing a hypothesis - 假使我是你 (jiǎshǐ wǒ shì nǐ) if I were you.
- Written register, interchangeable with 倘若 and 假如; everyday speech prefers 如果 or 要是.
- Note 假 is jiǎ (false/suppose) here, not jià (holiday). Pairs with 就/那 in the consequence.
