How it is used
- 'to the point that / so much so that', introducing a result - 他太累了,以至于站着都能睡着 (tā tài lèi le, yǐzhìyú zhànzhe dōu néng shuìzháo) he was so tired he could fall asleep standing up.
- Links a cause to an extreme consequence; the result is often surprising or extreme.
- Nearly interchangeable with 以致 but 以至于 leans slightly more spoken and neutral; 以致 more often flags a bad outcome.
