How it is used
- 'After; from now on' - 下课以后 (xiàkè yǐhòu) after class; 以后再说 (yǐhòu zài shuō) let's talk later.
- Placed AFTER the event it follows (毕业以后 after graduating), unlike English 'after' which comes first.
- Contrast 后来 (hòulái), which only narrates the past ('later on, it turned out…'); 以后 covers future and general time.
