How it is used
- To pay dues/fees/taxes to an authority - 交纳税款 (jiāonà shuìkuǎn) to pay taxes, 交纳会费 (jiāonà huìfèi) to pay membership fees.
- Formal near-twin of 缴纳 (jiǎonà) and plainer 交 (jiāo); all mean handing required money to an institution, upward to authority (not paying a shopkeeper).
- 纳 = to remit/hand in; reserved for official levies and dues.
