How it is used
- To argue back in defense of one's view - 他极力争辩自己无罪 (tā jílì zhēngbiàn zìjǐ wúzuì) he argued hard that he was innocent.
- Emphasizes verbally defending/justifying oneself; often 无可争辩 (wúkě zhēngbiàn) indisputable, or 争辩不休 (arguing endlessly).
- Near 辩解 (biànjiě, to explain away/excuse) but 争辩 is contesting a point against opposition.
