- The main body or principal part of something - 以青年为主体 (yǐ qīngnián wéi zhǔtǐ) with youth as the main body; 建筑主体 (jiànzhù zhǔtǐ) the main structure.
- Also the philosophical/legal 'subject' (the acting agent), as opposed to 客体 (kètǐ, object).
