How it is used
- "in order to" - states a goal up front: 为了健康，我每天跑步 (wèile jiànkāng, wǒ měitiān pǎobù) for my health, I run daily.
- Contrast 因为 (yīnwèi, because): 为了 gives the purpose/aim, 因为 gives the cause/reason. "为了钱" (for the sake of money) vs "因为钱" (because of money) differ in direction.
