How it is used
- 'To get off work' - 我五点下班 (wǒ wǔ diǎn xiàbān) I get off at five.
- Opposite of 上班 (shàngbān, go to work). Note the school parallels use 学/课, not 班: leaving school is 放学 - 上班时间 (shàngbān shíjiān) working hours.
