How it is used
- 'Everything, all' - a sweeping whole, often standing alone as a pronoun: 一切都会好的 (yíqiè dōu huì hǎo de) everything will be fine.
- Contrast 所有 (suǒyǒu): 一切 = 'everything' as a totality and can stand alone; 所有 modifies a specific noun ('all the X').
- Common in set phrases: 一切正常 (yíqiè zhèngcháng) all normal, 尽一切努力 (jìn yíqiè nǔlì) make every effort.
