- Everyday, casual-register verb for scolding or cursing someone: 妈妈骂了他一顿 (māma màle tā yí dùn) "mom gave him a scolding."
- 骂人 màrén is the general activity of cursing/swearing at people; 挨骂 áimà uses the passive marker 挨 ("suffer/take") for "to get scolded," from the receiver's point of view.
- Its intensity ranges from a mild telling-off to outright cursing depending on the words used - it isn't inherently as harsh as English "curse."
