How it came to be
A net over a short-tailed bird and a cord to work it, in the full form. It is the fine net for catching small birds, and a thin silk cloth is named after its mesh.
How it is used
- To collect/gather/spread out, and fine silk gauze - 罗列 (luóliè) to enumerate/set out, 网罗 (wǎngluó) to gather up (talent, information), 张罗 (zhāngluo) to bustle about arranging things.
- 包罗万象 (bāoluó-wànxiàng) means all-embracing; 门可罗雀 (ménkě-luóquè) means so few visitors you could net sparrows at the door. Also transliterates 罗马 Rome, and is a surname.
