How it is used

  • To twist/wring/entangle, and to hang - 绞尽脑汁 (jiǎojìn-nǎozhī) to rack one's brains, 绞肉机 (jiǎoròujī) a meat grinder, 绞刑 (jiǎoxíng) death by hanging.
  • 绞痛 (jiǎotòng) means a griping, wringing pain; 心绞痛 (xīnjiǎotòng) is angina.
