甘 gān sweet

How it came to be
A mouth with one short stroke laid inside it: something being held on the tongue rather than swallowed. What people keep in the mouth to go on tasting it is the sweet thing.
How it is used
- Sweet, and willing/content - 甘甜 (gāntián) sweet, 苦尽甘来 (kǔjìn-gānlái) after bitterness comes sweetness.
- 甘心 (gānxīn) means to be willing/resigned: 不甘心 (bù gānxīn) to be unwilling to accept it; 心甘情愿 (xīngān-qíngyuàn) means to do gladly of one's own free will. Also byname of Gansu (甘肃).
