How it came to be
Two people in profile, facing the same way, one directly behind the other. Standing them in a line like that shows which is taller: the comparison is in the arrangement.
How it is used
- The comparison word: A 比 B + adjective = "A is more … than B" - 我比你高 (wǒ bǐ nǐ gāo) I'm taller than you.
- Trap: don't add 很/非常 to the adjective in a 比 sentence - say 比你高 not 比你很高. To say "a bit", put it after: 高一点 (gāo yìdiǎn) taller by a bit.
- Also "for example" 比如 (bǐrú), "compare" 比较 (bǐjiào), "match" 比赛 (bǐsài).
