How it came to be
The display block, a cloth laid flat, beside the strike block, a hand with a rod. A wide building to spread things out in, somebody armed at the door: the great hall of a palace.
How it is used
- A grand hall or palace building - 宫殿 (gōngdiàn) palace, 大殿 (dàdiàn) the main hall of a temple, 殿堂 (diàntáng) a hall of grandeur (art/learning).
- Formal/architectural; associated with imperial and religious buildings.
