How it came to be
A crescent moon, on purpose: a full moon would be a circle, and the sun already has the circle.
How it is used
- Two senses. The moon - 月亮 (yuèliang) the moon, 月光 (yuèguāng) moonlight.
- And 'month' - 三个月 (sān ge yuè) three months; the numbers 一月…十二月 name the months, so 一月 (yīyuè) = January.
