  • Two readings. piē: to cast aside / skim off - 撇开 (piēkāi) to set aside/leave out, 撇下 (piēxià) to abandon, 撇清 (piēqīng) to disclaim (involvement).
  • piě: to purse / a leftward stroke - 撇嘴 (piě zuǐ) to curl one's lip (in disdain), 一撇 (yì piě) the falling-left stroke 丿 in a character.
  • 撇 (piē) = to leave behind; distinct from 瞥 (piē, to glance).
