How it is used

  • Two jobs: to support someone by the arm - 搀扶 (chānfú) to help (an old or weak person) walk, 把老人搀起来 (bǎ lǎorén chān qǐlái) help the elder up; and to mix in - 搀水 (chān shuǐ), a variant of 掺.
  • The 'help walk' sense (搀扶) is the distinctive one.
