How it is used
- A standalone verb 'to provoke/stir up (trouble or a reaction)': 惹麻烦 (rě máfan) cause trouble, 惹祸 (rě huò) bring disaster on oneself, 惹人注意 (rě rén zhùyì) attract attention.
- 惹不起 (rě bù qǐ) = can't afford to cross someone: 惹不起还躲不起吗 (rě bù qǐ hái duǒ bù qǐ ma) if I can't beat them I can at least avoid them.
