源How it came to be

The old dictionary reads it as a snake, coiled with the tail swept out to the right. The grammar sense is borrowed and has nothing to do with the picture.

用How it is used

• Also / too, always before the verb - 我也去 (wǒ yě qù) I'm going too; it can't sit at the end like English too.
• It mirrors what someone else does or is; 也许 (yěxǔ) perhaps is a separate fixed word.
