- Marks an action in progress right now - 我正在吃饭 (wǒ zhèngzài chīfàn) I'm in the middle of eating.
- Stronger 'right at this moment' than plain 在 + verb; often paired with sentence-final 呢.
- Use it for ongoing actions, not states; you can't say 正在是.
