- 复制 (fùzhì) means to duplicate or copy exactly, and is the everyday word for "copy" in computing: 复制粘贴 (fùzhì zhāntiē, copy and paste).
- Also used for reproductions/replicas of art or objects, and figuratively for repeating a success: 复制这个模式 (fùzhì zhège móshì, replicate this model).
- Compare with 抄 (chāo), which means to copy by hand/transcribe (copying notes, or 抄袭 chāoxí for plagiarism) - 复制 is mechanical, exact duplication, while 抄 involves manually rewriting and can carry a dishonest connotation.
- In biology it also covers cloning (克隆 kèlóng is the more specific loanword, but 复制 is used for DNA replication).
