鹿 lù deer
deer; surname
How it came to be
A deer seen from the side: branching antlers on top, the head with its eye, then the body and the legs below.
用法
- Deer - 小鹿 (xiǎo lù) fawn, 梅花鹿 (méihuālù) sika deer, 鹿角 (lùjiǎo) antlers.
- Classic idiom 指鹿为马 (zhǐlù-wéimǎ) 'to point at a deer and call it a horse' = to deliberately misrepresent, call black white (from a Qin-dynasty story of testing loyalty). Also 心里像小鹿乱撞 (xīnli xiàng xiǎolù luànzhuàng) = heart fluttering (with nerves/love).
- Everyday animal noun; also a surname.
