- Chan/Zen Buddhism and meditation - 禅宗 (Chánzōng) the Zen school, 参禅 (cānchán) to practice Zen meditation, 坐禅 (zuòchán) to sit in meditation.
- 口头禅 (kǒutóuchán), a 'Zen phrase on the lips', means a pet phrase/verbal habit. Note: read shàn it means to abdicate (禅让).
