- A railing/fence, or a column/section - 栏杆 (lángān) railing/banister, 围栏 (wéilán) fence/enclosure.
- 专栏 (zhuānlán) = a (newspaper) column; 栏目 (lánmù) = a regular column or TV/program segment: 电视栏目 (diànshì lánmù).
- 跨栏 (kuàlán) = hurdling. In forms, 栏 = a field/blank to fill in.
