- To gather into one's arms / take on: 揽活 (lǎn huó) to take on jobs, 招揽生意 (zhāolǎn shēngyì) to drum up business, 包揽 (bāolǎn) to take on the whole lot.
- 大权独揽 (dàquán-dúlǎn) = to grab all power for oneself.
- 一揽子 (yìlǎnzi) = a package/all-in-one: 一揽子计划 (yìlǎnzi jìhuà) a package plan.
- 揽 also = to embrace: 把孩子揽入怀中 (bǎ háizi lǎnrù huáizhōng).
