How it came to be
A snake: the triangular head at the top and the body coiling away below it. It was borrowed for the pronoun so completely that the snake had to be written again with an insect added.
用法
- The third-person pronoun for things and animals - 'it' - 它很可爱 (tā hěn kě'ài) it's cute, plural 它们 (tāmen) they/them (for objects).
- Homophone of 他/她 (tā, he/she) but written with the 宀 top for non-persons; Chinese uses 它 far less than English uses 'it' and often just drops the object pronoun.
