源How it came to be

A kneeling woman with a mouth beside her. The old sense is to go along with what is said, following rather than speaking, and from that comes like, as, and in accordance with.

用用法

• Half of 如果 (rúguǒ) = "if" - 如果你来 (rúguǒ nǐ lái) if you come. Also 比如 (bǐrú) for example, 如何 (rúhé) how (written).
• Sense "like/as": 如 in 如今 (rújīn) nowadays, and comparisons - 不如 (bùrú) not as good as: 走路不如骑车 (zǒulù bùrú qíchē) walking isn't as good as biking.
