How it came to be

A late character with no ancient form: a mouth over power. It was split off from another character to carry one of its two meanings, the separate one, the other one.

用法

  • Another / separate / additionally - 另外 (lìngwài) besides/in addition, 另一个 (lìng yí ge) the other one, 另一方面 (lìng yì fāngmiàn) on the other hand.
  • 另 marks a different, additional item from the one already mentioned.
