How it came to be
A mouth with a stroke curling right round it. The curl is the point: words hooked together and tied off into one bundle, which is exactly what a phrase is.
用法
- A sentence, and its measure word: 句子 (jùzi) sentence, 一句话 (yí jù huà) one remark/sentence, 说几句 (shuō jǐ jù) say a few words.
- Use 句 to count utterances/lines: 一句诗 (yí jù shī) a line of poetry.
- Note the pitfall: for written passages the measure is 句, but for whole texts/articles use 篇 (piān).
