- To split/chop with force along the grain - 劈柴 (pī chái) to chop firewood, 劈成两半 (pī chéng liǎng bàn) to split in two.
- Also of lightning striking - 天打雷劈 (tiān dǎ léi pī) may heaven strike me down (an oath).
- 劈头盖脸 (pītóu-gàiliǎn) = right in the face, all at once (of a torrent of words/blows).
